It is a bittersweet feeling to already be writing my last blog post. It seems like not long ago I was starting on my introduction and wondering what I would write. I feel happy that this is my last blog, because it means that summer is ending and that my new adventure in British Columbia is only a grasp away, but I am also sad, because it means that my wonderful time working with the Laforges is done.
I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to write for my last blog. I was unsure of what I wanted to leave with. After doing a lot of thinking, I made the decision that I wanted to be my last post on l’Écho du Rail to be about my experience at Du Reél au Miniature and what a fantastic time I’ve had. This summer was full of memorable experiences and I thought that writing about them would make a wonderful last blog post.

Working with Guy and Géraldine was a wonderful experience. They are fantastic people and I got very close to them very quickly. Guy and I love to joke around with one another while Géraldine is extremely sweet and gives fantastic hugs. Despite how much Guy and I joke around, he is just as sweet and caring as his wife is. To celebrate the end of the summer, they gave my coworker and me a bag full of gifts, including some that were in reference to jokes that happened over the year.
My coworker, Michelle, is just as fantastic as my bosses are. We had a lot of fun over the summer and we got quite close. Michelle, who had worked here last summer as well, showed me around and I was, and still am, very thankful for her help. She made my summer a fantastic summer, and I will definitely miss going to play checkers with her when it was not busy.

This summer, we had the amazing change to be a part of CBC’s show “Land and Sea.” They filmed on the site on July 25th, however the night of July 24th, my lovely bosses invited them over for dinner and asked if I wanted to join. I did, and the dinner was so much fun. We ate and they drank wine as Nadège (Guy and Géraldine’s granddaughter) and I drank iced tea in wine glasses. After the dinner, Rachel and Danny (the people from CBC) were speaking of how they had to go take some shots of the city, and I offered to help them out and show them different areas so that they could get their footage without too much of a hassle. I spend the remainder of the evening going around different places in Edmundston with them and we got fantastic shots, including one of a train passing by at the CN Station. Rachel and Danny were incredible and super nice. We had loads of fun that night.
One thing I adored about working here was the people. I had the opportunity to meet incredible and interesting people. One time, I gave a visit to a very sweet Chinese family, and while the couple spoke English perfectly, their daughter did not speak a word of English. Throughout the visit, her mother translated to her, and a few times I made jokes and asked her questions that her mother translated. Despite the language barrier, that little girl and I were able to laugh together and have fun throughout our visit.
Another visit I had was a family of four of which all members were above fifty years old. I believed that they were all siblings, however during the visit I discovered that one of them was actually their mother! We had so much fun during our visit. We laughed a lot and really enjoyed ourselves. It was one of my favourite visits (although I have many favourites).
Another thing I love about working here is the history aspect. I am very passionate about history and that is one of the things that attracted me the most towards working here—getting to see pieces of history, learning about them and getting to explain them to people.
I had a wonderful time this summer and a major part of it was due to my experience here. It was better than I ever could have anticipated. I got to work with kind, funny, caring people who welcomed me immediately. I was able to work with people that I do not simply think of as the people I worked with, but that I think of as a family. Du Réel au Miniature is one of a kind. Thank you for the incredible summer.
